'Co-ops Mean Business' Conference to Showcase Provincial Co-op Movement
The British Columbia Institute for Co-operative Studies will host the 'Co-ops Mean Business' conference 31 May-2 June 2001. The conference will bring together co-operators from across the province, and from many different industries and sectors, to discuss how co-operatives are being used to maintain economic health while deepening the roots of social responsibility.

The conference will cover a wide variety of topics, all pertaining to BC and will appeal to people who are already involved in a co-op, or those who are thinking of developing one. Among the topics slated for discussion are Starting a New Co-op, Rural Co-ops, Co-op alternatives in the Fishing Industry, and Co-ops and Creating Options for People Living with a Disability.

The conference boasts a strong lineup of speakers with expertise in co-op management, from BC and from other parts of Canada. But perhaps more importantly, the conference will provide the forum and the opportunities for co-op members- the everyday co-op practitioners- a chance to meet and share their experiences and wisdom.

The registration fee for the Conference is $150.00, or $125.00 before 30 April. This includes participation in five workshops out of a total of 18, the Co-op Forum, two lunch buffets, and two dinner buffets. A limited amount of money is available for bursaries, for those who would otherwise be unable to attend. To apply for a bursary, please enclose a letter with your application stating how attending the conference will benefit you and your community. There is also a limited amount of student spaces available, at a $20.00 registration fee.

The Co-ops Mean Business Conference is sponsored by the BC Institute for Co-operative Studies and the Canadian Co-operative Association- BC Region. Financial support has been provided by the Ministry of Community Development, Cooperatives, and Volunteers.
