During
their recent visit to Nelson, researchers from BCICS were delighted
to witness members of the Kootenay Film and Video Co-operative (KFVC)
out in action. Filmmakers Robert Irving and Jef Wonnenberg spent
two days chronicling the stories and faces of the vibrant and diverse
co-op community on film. Their film team shot some exciting footage
during Nelson's second annual Festival of Ideas, an event organised
to celebrate and recognise the creative capacity of the community.
Over forty groups and organisations, including several local co-ops,
gathered to put forward their ideas about artistic expression, sustainable
lifestyles, and health alternatives among other topics.
The film co-op seized the opportunity to cover Jef Wonnenberg
(KFVC) and Joanna Maratta of the Kootenay Columbia Film Commission
in a discussion session, which highlighted the Film Co-op's dynamic
role in the emerging Kootenay film and art media culture. Over
the two days of filming researchers witnessed an energetic and
supportive co-op community, one in which the Kootenay Film and
Video Co-operative plays a significant role.
