Publications: Occasional Papers and Handbooks Ready to Go
The first three papers in BCICS's new Occasional Papers Series are now available, and the next series is now in press. The series will serve as a forum for discussion of topics related to co-operativism in British Columbia. The inaugural trio of papers, which feature a foreword by BC's preeminent ethnobotanist Dr. Nancy Turner, all relate to First Nations, Non-Timber Forest Products, and co-operatives, and were produced in association with UVic's School of Environmental Studies. The second set of papers discuss the role co-operatives may play in the provision of health care in BC.

Also currently in press are a series of handbooks detailing how to start a producer co-operative in the forest or fishing industry. They give a step-by-step guide on how to form a co-operative, from putting together a business plan to the steps required for incorporation as a co-operative in BC, as well as providing case studies of similar co-ops in BC. The handbooks also provide valuable resources available either from the sector or from government sources.

All of these papers will be available either electronically in a PDF format or in a conventional hardcopy through the Institute for $6.00 each.
