BCICS Website Update
A new feature on BCICS web site is a form that lets visitors add their names to the Anthill mailing list.

This interactive feature has been introduced as a way to better streamline the distribution of hardcopy and e-mail versions of the Anthill. The e-mail version of the Anthill will link readers to articles published on the BCICS web site.

Mailing list information is now stored in a database on the BCICS web server. The new feature is the first in a series of steps to make the Institute's web site more interactive. Currently on the workbench is an additional function to the mail list form that will give subscribers the ability to edit or remove their contact information online using their web browser.

In addition to the mailing list form, BCICS welcomes site visitors to add information to the new Co-op Events Calendar. The calendar will link visitors to information on co-op events held locally, nationally and internationally.

BCICS Website Charts Progress of BC's Co-op Legislation

The British Columbia Institute of Co-operative Studies Website now has a British Columbia Co-operative Legislation Index. This section of the BCICS site provides clearly researched links to relevant legislation pertaining to Co-operatives and Credit Unions in the province of British Columbia and the rest of Canada. This resource also provides links to cases or legislative disputes that affect co-operatives in Canada. For example the site has charted information surrounding the Ontario government's controversial Social Housing Reform Bill 128 and the reaction and action of the housing co-op community in the province to it. Such a case is important in regards to co-ops and legislation, as it defines their relationship to government and whether government considers the co-operative perspective in the framing of legislation. This information will hopefully provide both co-operators and students of co-operative studies access and insight to the laws that affect co-operation and how such laws play out in their application. The website will also update changes or modifications in legislation and cases involving co-ops and credit unions accordingly.
