Visitors to the Institute
One of the advantages of working at BCICS is meeting visitors from all parts of the world. Many of these visitors host discussions about co-operatives in which they are involved. For all of us here, it is always a rewarding and encouraging diversion to sit for a few minutes and hear about some of the interesting things taking place in co-ops around the world.

We would like to thank the following people who have taken time out of their busy schedule to visit: Ki-Woong Lee, Eui Sik Hwang, Yong-Taek Kim, all from Korea, visited the Institute in June, and met with Kathleen Gabelmann and Kristen Sinats. They were also given a tour of the Island Farms Dairy, courtesy of Quality Control Manager Norm Lim.

James Bell (right), of the School of Management Studies, University of Surrey, gave a talk on the British Co-operative Movement. He is also Editor of the Journal of Co-operative Studies.

Lily Laiw, the director of the Homemaker's Union and Foundation, of Taipei, Taiwan, described her organisation's recent involvement in develping co-ops to purchase unaudauterated foods, particularly for people with limited income.

Helgi Skuli Kjartsson, a historian from Iceland presented a talk on SIS, at one time the largest consumer co-op in Iceland. He discussed with researchers the reasons why that organisation failed in the early 1990s.
